HL Mando Visits Eurobike 2023 in Germany

For five days from June 21st to June 25th (local time), HL Mando participated at Eurobike 2023 held in Frankfurt, Germany. Eurobike is considered one of the three largest bike exhibitions in the world, along with Interbike held in the United States and China International Bicycle & Motor Fair. Over 1,500 businesses in the industry joined Eurobike 2023 to promote their new products and technologies and over sixty thousand visitors visited the event, making it the best opportunity for companies to interact with buyers overseas. As it did last year, HL Mando presented its technological expertise to the world at Eurobike.

Same as last year, HL Mando exhibited its Smart Personal Mobility (SPM) platform “Pedalrite.” Pedalrite is the world’s first platform for SPMs applied with chainless manufacturing technology. The technology is gaining attention in the micro-mobility markets including the e-bicycle market as most products in the market run with a chain drive.
 

Pedalrite houses the by-Wire technology connecting each part with electric signals and allows a flexible design based on the chainless system, applicable to two-wheel, three-wheel, four-wheel, and other structures. Pedalrite is durable under the weight of the passengers and loaded objects, making it an optimal platform for e-Cargo mobilities.

At Eurobike 2023, HL Mando showcased high-performing motors, high-capacity batteries, and rear detection sensors focusing on enhancing the performance of Pedalrite.
 

The three new products manufactured with HL Mando’s technological expertise—the 2.4kWh high-capacity battery, the high-performing motor, and the rear detection system—will be officially available in the market from the fourth quarter of this year. The new high-capacity battery uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) which is more stable compared to lithium-ion and, unlike the conventional design applying two batteries, the new battery can show sufficient battery performance. The new battery can satisfy the market demand with its superior cost-effectiveness and performance. The new high-performing motor provides a maximum torque of 120N.m, attracting many visitors.

Before manufacturing the new products, HL Mando equipped its ePedal with motors and batteries from other companies. Starting next year, however, HL Mando plans to supply products with ePedal, motor, and battery produced entirely from its technology.

Experiencing the Pedalrite System

At Eurobike 2023, HL Mando prepared several demo vehicles applied with Pedalrite for the visitors to drive on test tracks. Out of seven demo vehicles housing Pedalrite, ECCOV’s four-wheel drive vehicle attracted the most attention as it was equipped with the new products.

ECCOV’s four-wheel drive vehicle runs two motors with one battery. The visitors who tried the demo vehicle acclaimed its high acceleration performance, and the vehicle perfectly demonstrated the driver alert function from the rear detection system and automatic motor braking function.

The booth visitors browsed and tested HL Mando’s parts and SPM system with interest and participated in a survey. Various businesses and vehicles ed HL Mando’s SPM system, and the visitors left positive reviews that it would facilitate the vehicle designing process and that the vehicles can drive in reverse.

Visitors from large logistics companies including Amazon and DHL visited our booth and tested HL Mando’s SPM system. After the test drive, all acclaimed the system for “[being] optimized for e-Cargo.” Also, they mediated a contract worth around three million euros between us and their clients who supply e-Cargos.

The Future of Micromobility Exhibited at Eurobike 2023

What technologies did other companies participating in Eurobike 2023 exhibit? With various micro-mobility technologies gathered in one place, the e-Cargo market attracted the most visitors.

The e-Cargo market is growing every year. The European eCargo market has grown by around 40% annually since 2018. Zweirad-Industrie-Verband (ZIV; Two-wheel Industry Association of Germany) reports that, in Germany, about 78,000 e-Cargos were sold in 2020, 120,000 in 2021, and 165,000 last year. Considering that the German e-Cargo market accounts for 40% of the entire European e-Cargo market, the market is showing an enormous increase every year.

With 1/5 of volume and 1/31 of weight compared to electric cars, e-Cargo is a compact mobility free from parking problems and traffic congestion. The customizability of the vehicle’s appearance is also a positive factor that strengthens its future growth potential.

Furthermore, it reduces carbon emissions by using eco-friendly power sources, and it consumes 1/16 of energy compared to electric vehicles. With the incentives for purchasing green mobilities given, logistics companies and commerce businesses focusing on last-mile delivery are showing great interest.

How about other companies that exhibited chainless motor systems like Pedalrite? Many companies enhanced user convenience including pedal noise, pedal feel, and responsiveness. Along with many excellent prototypes, the new businesses presented high-performing chainless systems, signaling fierce competition in the chainless system market. With the next-generation European standard officially announced to include the chainless system, the companies discussed how they should respond to the reinforced European regulations and standards including battery safety guidelines.
